Businesses are part of the strategy to invest in assets linked to security of supply in the country’s energy transition process
Âmbar Energia, a J&F group company, announced the sale of its controlling stake in two transmission lines – Vale do São Bartolomeu (VSB) and Triângulo Mineiro Transmissora (TMT) – to Eletrobras. The transmission lines are located in Goiás and the Federal District (VSB) and in Minas Gerais (TMT). As part of its ongoing commitment to contribute to the country’s energy security, Âmbar also announced the purchase of the Candiota Thermoelectric Power Plant, located in the municipality of the same name, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The Candiota plant, which was inaugurated in 2011, has a capacity of 350 megawatts (MW), supplying energy to about 8% of the state’s population. “The acquisition of the Candiota Thermoelectric Power Plant ensures that its capacity remains at the disposal of the Brazilian electricity system, contributing to the security of the country’s energy transition and to the expansion of our operations”, emphasizes the president of Âmbar Energia, Marcelo Zanatta.
The energy chain of the Candiota Thermoelectric Power Plant is responsible for approximately 40% of the municipality’s revenue and employs almost half of the city’s formal workforce. Zanatta adds that “the region can now count on the strength and broad business portfolio of the J&F group for its economic prosperity.”
Âmbar already operates in the generation of renewable energy and natural gas, with investments in power plants and distributed generation of photovoltaic (solar) energy. With the incorporation of the coal-fired Candiota plant, Âmbar’s total power generation capacity rises to 1.8 gigawatts (GW). The company also operates in gas transportation (pipelines), energy commercialization and provision of services related to the area, such as energy efficiency projects.
Âmbar Energia has also reached an agreement with Eletrobras to sell its indirect stake in non-operational wind projects in the Baleia complex, subject to future events.
