Transaction consolidates the company’s position as the second largest private generator of natural gas energy in the country
Âmbar Energia, a J&F group company, today concluded the acquisition of 12 thermoelectric plants in the state of Amazonas. The purchase of the units, which belonged to Eletrobras, strengthens Âmbar’s natural gas generation portfolio, which also includes hydroelectric, solar, biomass, biogas and coal plants.
Together, the 12 plants that now belong to Âmbar have an installed capacity of 1,559 megawatts (MW). “This transaction expands our generating complex with strategic assets for our portfolio, which are fundamental for energy security,” says the president of Âmbar Energia, Marcelo Zanatta.
The conclusion of the deal includes the transfer of all assets and rights held by Eletronorte, a subsidiary of Eletrobras, in the UTEs Mauá III, Rio Negro (in project), Aparecida, Anamã, Anori, Codajás, Caapiranga, Cristiano Rocha, Manauara, Jaraqui, Tambaqui and Ponta Negra.
Zanatta emphasizes the relevance of natural gas as an essential source for Brazil. “This is a fundamental fuel for the safe energy transition in the country, ensuring flexibility and reliability to the national electricity system.”
The deal was signed and announced in June 2024. The conclusion of the sale of UTE Santa Cruz (500 MW), in Rio de Janeiro, also part of Eletrobras’ portfolio, awaits regulatory approval.
